An interesting article in The Oregonian today. His former colleagues from that time describe him as a man of liberal political views who was driven by greed.
I’ve often thought part of what’s happening to this country is that more and more the “conservative” voices which help shape discourse are insincere. Conservatism has become more a genre of entertainment than a political ideology, and the people leading that transformation are cynical grifters who don’t have to apologize for conflating pecuniary self-interest with political ideals because that conflation is built into right-wing thinking: Greed is good.
Trump is the disgraceful culmination of this trend. I’d like to think the chumps who voted him into power will realize their mistake at some point, but what difference will that make?
